Challenge

Challenge

The real estate rental market presented significant friction points in the relationship between owners, tenants, and service providers, leading to inefficient communication and cumbersome processes.

The key challenges identified included:

  • Creating a progressive disclosure model that doesn't require extensive personal information before showing available properties

  • Designing distinct yet integrated experiences for three different user roles (owners, tenants, vendors)

  • Balancing transparency with privacy in the rental application process

  • Streamlining communication between all parties involved in property management

  • Creating a rating system that encourages accountability and quality service

Research

Research

Research was conducted to understand pain points in the existing real estate rental market and identify opportunities for improvement.

Research revealed important insights:

  • User Friction: Many competing apps require full registration before showing available properties, creating a significant barrier to entry

  • Communication Challenges: Property issues often involve multiple parties with no central communication channel

  • Trust Factors: Both tenants and owners need verification touchpoints to establish trust

  • Service Integration: Lack of integrated vendor services creates additional work for all parties

These insights directly informed the progressive disclosure approach, verification system, and multi-role communication design.

  • Property management dashboard for owners

  • Service marketplace for vendors

  • Tenant portal with lease management and service requests

  • Rating and review system to build accountability

Role-Specific Experiences

For Tenants:

  • Property Discovery: Browse listings without login, with additional details revealed after registration

  • Application Process: Streamlined verification and application workflow

  • Communication Hub: Direct messaging with owners and service providers

  • Document Access: Easy access to lease agreements and HOA rules

  • Service Requests: Ability to request and monitor service from approved vendors

  • Move Management: Tools for move-in, ongoing residence, and move-out processes

For Owners:

  • Property Management: Comprehensive dashboard for all properties

  • Tenant Management: Application review, communication, and issue tracking

  • Vendor Relations: Contract management with service providers

  • Financial Tracking: Income statements and expense monitoring

  • Communication Tools: Direct messaging with owners and tenants

  • Job Management: Track service requests and completions

  • Review Showcase: Build reputation through verified reviews

  • Contract Management: Manage relationships with property owners

User Testing & Validation

The design underwent multiple rounds of testing to validate the user flows and interface elements. Testing revealed opportunities to simplify the application process and improve the messaging interface, which were incorporated into the final design.

Visual Design Decisions

Visual Design Decisions

Logo Design

The logo features a stylized letter "N" designed to resemble a building structure, symbolizing the connection between physical properties and the digital platform that manages them. The minimalist approach reflects the app's focus on simplicity and efficiency in real estate management.

Typography

Font: Sora

Sora was selected for its excellent readability across devices and modern aesthetic that balances professionalism with approachability, essential qualities for a real estate application serving multiple user types.

Color Palette

The color system was intentionally restrained to create a professional environment that wouldn't distract from property images and information. The teal accent adds personality while complementing typical real estate photography.

Brand Identity

The visual system was designed to convey reliability and efficiency while maintaining visual appeal. Line icons were used throughout the interface for consistency, with 3D icons reserved for special sections to create visual hierarchy.

The visual system includes:

  • Clean, minimal layouts with ample white space

  • Consistent grid system for organized information display

  • Strategic use of the teal accent color to highlight actions

  • Line icon system for functional clarity

  • 3D icons for featured sections to create visual interest

  • Photography guidelines to ensure consistent property representation
